Taxonomy: Fam. Compositae// Genus:  Carduus// Species: Carduus pycnocephalus L.

Determined according to the botanical key provided in Flora Europaea Vol. 4 (Tutin et al., 1976).

Lifeform: Annual; therophyte according to the Raunkiær system.

Distribution: Native to Macaronesia, from Europe to Pakistan and Arabian Peninsula, North Africa according to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew).

Habitat: Open habitats, usually on disturbed ground- near roads, cultivated land and settlements, wastelands.

Flowering period: Spring-summer (MAY, JUN, JUL).
