Taxonomy: Fam. Caryophyllaceae// Genus: Scleranthus// Species: Scleranthus annuus L.

Determined according to the botanical key provided in The Flora of the Republic of Macedonia (Micevski, 1993).

Distribution: Native to Macaronesia, Europe to Central Siberia, Mediterranean to Eritrea, Ethiopia, Arabian Peninsula and Iran according to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens Kew).

Habitat: Dry grassland, rocks and rocky terrains.

Lifeform: Annual; therophyte according to the Raunkiær system.

Flowering period: Spring: MAR, APR, MAY.
