Distribution: Native to temperate Eurasia to Iran and China; Yemen; Northwest Africa; Central to East Africa according to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew).

Habitat: Moist and somewhat shaded places – near rivers, woods.

Flowering period: Spring – summer: MAY, JUN, JUL.
