Distribution: Native to the Temperate Northern Hemisphere to Colombia, West Bolivia to South America, Nigeria to Kenya according to the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew).
Habitat: Found in wet habitats near streams and rivers, on muddy soil and in shallow water.
Lifeform: Perrenial; Hemicryptophyte according to the Raunkiær system.
