Euphorbia chamaesyce L.

Taxonomy: Fam. Euphorbiaceae// Genus: Euphorbia// Species: Euphorbia chamaesyce L.

Determined according to the botanical keys provided by Micevski in Micevski (1998).

Variability: Two forms occur in the Osogovo region: subsp. chamaesyce and subsp. massiliensis (DC) Thell. with the following distinction:

– subsp. chamaesyce: plant and capsule glabrous, glands with in inconspicuous appendage.

-subsp. massiliensis: plant and capsule villous, glands with in conspicuous petaloid appendage.

These two taxa are not accepted at the subspecies level in The Euro+Med Planbase (source: World Checklist of Selected Plant Families (2010), copyright © The Board of Trustees of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.).

Distribution: Native from Macaronesia to West Siberia and Pakistan according to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew).

Habitat:  Rocky and stony ground, gravel, disturbed ground, roadsides.

Lifeform: Annual; therophyte according to the Raunkiaer system.

Flowering period: Summer – fall: JUL, AUG, SEP, OCT.
