Determined according to the botanical key provided by Micevski in Micevski (1995) as Amaranthus lividus L. The accepted name in the Euro+Med PlantBase (Iamonico, 2015+) is Amaranthus blitum L.

Lifeform: Annual; Therophyte according to the Raunkiær system.

Distribution: Native to South America: Peru to Brazil and Argentina; introduced in the rest of the world, according to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew).

Habitat: Found usually on disturbed ground- alongside roads, cultivated land, gardens, settlements.

Flowering period: Late summer – fall: AUG, SEP, OCT, NOV.
