Determined according to the botanical key provided by Feráková (1976 in Tutin et al.).

Lifeform: Biennial. The first year of the life cycle is vegetative, characterized with basal rosette formation. The second year is generative, with stem formation, flowering, fruiting and senescence.

Distribution: Lactuca viminea is native to the Canary Islands, Northwest Africa, Europe to West Himalaya; Lactuca viminea subsp. ramosissima is native to the Mediterranean region according to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew).

Habitat: Dry and open habitats- hill pastures, rocky terrains.

Flowering period: Summer to fall (JUL, AUG, SEP).
