Taxonomy: Fam. Caryophyllaceae// Genus: Cerastium// Species: Cerastium fontanum Baumg.// Subspecies: Cerastium fontanum subsp. vulgare (Hartm.) Greuter & Burdet.

Determined according to the botanical key provided by Micevski (1993) as Cerastium caespitosum Gilib., Fl. Lith. 5:159 (1781). The accepted name in The Euro+Med PlantBase is Cerastium fontanum subsp. vulgare (Hartm.) Greuter & Burdet in Willdenowia 12: 37. 1982.

Habitat: Grasslands and clearings and edges of forests.

Distribution: Native from Subarctic and Temperate Eurasia to Pakistan, West Himalaya, China and New Guinea; parts of North and East Africa according to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online portal, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (accepted as Cerastium holosteoides Fr.).

Lifeform: Perennial, hemicryptophyte according to the Raunkiaer system.

Flowering period: Late spring- summer: MAY, JUN, JUL.
