Taxonomy: Fam. Caryophyllaceae// Genus: Silene// Species: Silene atropurpurea (Griseb.) Greuter & Burdet.

Determined according to the botanical key provided in The Flora of the Republic of Macedonia (Micevski, 1993) as Lychnis atropurpurea subsp. sartorii (Boiss.) Micevski. The accepted name in The Euro+Med PlantBase (source: Marhold, 2011+) is Silene atropurpurea (Griseb.) Greuter & Burdet.

Distribution: Native to Balkan Peninsula and Romania according to the distribution information provided by The Euro+Med PlantBase (source: Marhold, 2011+).

Habitat: Clearings and on the edges of forests.

Lifeform: Perennial; Hemicryptophyte according to the Raunkiær system.

Flowering period: Late spring- early summer: MAY, JUN.
