Distribution: Native from Europe to Siberia, Japan, South-Central China, Nepal and Iran according to the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew).

Habitat: Open habitats – grasslands/ pastures, edges and clearings of European beech forests in the subalpine belt.

Lifeform: Perrenial; geophyte according to the Raunkiær system.

Flowering period: Early summer: JUN.
