Campanula abietina Griseb.

Taxonomy: Fam. Campanulaceae// Genus: Campanula// Species: Campanula abietina Griseb.

Fedorov (1976 in Tutin et al.) characterized this taxon by slender stolons, while Obradović (1974 in Josifović) described it as having short sterile shoots. In the population recorded on Osogovo (Ponikva), the plants have short rhizome, with short sterile shoots at the base of the plant during flowering.

Lifeform: Biennial or perennial plant.

Distribution: Native from the Balkan Peninsula to Central Europe and Ukraine according to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens Kew) and The Euro+Med PlantBase (source: Castroviejo et al., 2010+).

Habitat: Clearings and edges of European beech forests at c. 1500–1600 m altitude.

Flowering period:  Summer: JUN, JUL.
