Determined according to the botanical key provided by Finch and Sell in Tutin et al. (1976) as Leontodon hispidus subsp. danubialis (Jacq.) Simonkai, Enum. Pl. Transs. 353 (1887) (L. hastilis L., L. danubialis Jacq., L. hastilis var. glabratus Koch). The accepted name in The Euro+Med PlantBase (Greuter, 2006+) is Leontodon hispidus subsp. hastilis (L.) Corb., Nouv. Fl. Normandie: 370. 1894.

Species variability: Two subspecies of Leontodon hispidus L. occur in the Osogovo region:

Leontodon hispidus L. subsp. hispidus: plant distinctly hairy – leaves, stems and involucre with 2-fid and 3-fid hairs.

Leontodon hispidus subsp. hastilis (L.) Corb. – all parts of plant glabrous.

Lifeform: Perrenial; hemicryptophyte according to the Raunkiær system.

Distribution: Native from Europe to Caucasus and Türkiye according to the distribution information provided by The Euro+Med PlantBase (Greuter, 2006+) and the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew).

Habitat:  Subalpine pastures at c. 1800 m altitude.

Flowering period: Summer: JUL, AUG.
