Fritillaria gussichiae (Degen & Dörfl.) Rix

Taxonomy: Fam. Liliaceae// Genus: Fritillaria// Species: Fritillaria gussichiae (Degen & Dörfl.) Rix.

Determined according to the botanical key provided by Rix (1980 in Tutin et al.).

Lifeform: Bulbous perennial. Geophyte according to the Raunkiær system.

Distribution: Native to the Balkan Peninsula according to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew) and The Euro+Med Plantbase (Raab-Straube, (ed.) 2022+).

Habitat: Grasslands, clearings and edges of forests, sparse woods in the oak forests belt. A rather frequent species with well developed populations in dry and open places in oak forests of the southern slopes of Osogovo.

Recorded localities: Recorded at several localities, ranging from c. 500 to 1250 m altitude: Lake “Gradche”, mountain ridge between “Orizarska” River and lake “Gradche”; village of Istibanja region; village of Pantelej region; village of Polaki region.

Flowering period: Spring: APR, MAY.

Locality: mountain ridge between the Orizarska River and Lake Gradche. Date: 08.04.2024.

Locality: region between Ponikva and village of Polaki. Date: 06.05.2024.
