Taxonomy: Fam. Liliaceae// Genus: Tulipa// Species: Tulipa sylvestris L.// Subspecies: Tulipa sylvestris subsp. australis (Link) Pamp.

Determined according to the botanical key provided by Grey-Wilson and Matthews (1980 in Tutin et al.).

Note: the Osogovo population has somewhat higher values for the floral elements as reported by Grey-Wilson and Matthews (1980 in Tutin et al.). Stem not more than 2 mm wide above the uppermost leaf, lowest leaf less than 1.2 cm wide, inner perianth segments 28-42 mm long x 15-18 mm wide, outer segments perianth 27-38 mm long x 8-11 mm wide, pink tinged, filaments 5-12 mm long and anthers 4-7 mm long.

Lifeform: Bulbous perennial. Geophyte according to the Raunkiær system.

Distribution: Native to the Mediterranean region, South Central and East Europe to Northwest Xinjiang in China according to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew).

Habitat: Open terrains in hill pastures, on stony ground of volcanic origin. Recorded at c. 800–850 m a.s.l.

Recorded localities: Probishtip: hilly terrain between the Zletovska and Shtalkovichka River, near village of Shtalkovica.

Flowering period: Spring: APR.

Locality: Probishtip: hilly terrain between the Zletovska and Shtalkovichka River, near village of Shtalkovica. Date: 13.04.2026.
