Alyssoides utriculata (L.) Medik. subsp. utriculata

Taxonomy: Fam. Brassicaceae// Genus: Alyssoides// Species: Alyssoides utriculata (L.) Medik.// Subspecies: Alyssoides utriculata (L.) Medik. subsp. utriculata.

Determined according to the botanical keys provided by Micevski (1995) and Heywood and Ball (1964 in Tutin et al.). The plants from Osogovo correspond to Alyssoides utriculata var. graeca (Reuf.) Hay (A. graeca (Reuter) Jáv.). According to the Euro+Med Pantbase (Marhold, 2011+) this taxon is considered a synonym of Alyssoides utriculata (L.) Medik. subsp. utriculata.

Lifeform: Perennial plant. Chamaephyte according to the Raunkiær system.

Distribution: Alyssoides utriculata is native to West Central and Southwest Alps, Appennini, Balkan Peninsula to Türkiye and West Caucasus according to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew). Regarding A. graeca, POWO ad Euro+Med follow different concepts – while POWO considers it a synonym of A. utriculata var. bulgarica, Euro+Med considers is a synonym of A. utriculata subsp. utriculata.

Habitat:  Rocky terrains – scree. Lithophyte/ metallophyte species.

Recorded in the gorge of the Zletovska River.

Flowering period:  Spring.
