Taxonomy: Fam. Caryophyllaceae// Genus: Stellaria// Species: Stellaria media (L.) Cirillo// Subspecies: Stellaria media (L.) Cirillo subsp. media.

Determined as Stellaria media (L.) Vill. subsp. media according to the botanical keys provided by Chater and Heywood in Tutin et al. (1964) and Micevski in Micevski (1993). The accepted name in The Euro+Med PlantBase (Marhold, 2011+) is Stellaria media (L.) Cirillo subsp. media.

Lifeform: Annual, therophyte according to the Raunkiaer system.

Habitat: Common and widespread plant found in moist places and on disturbed ground- near roads, orchards, arable land, near and in settlements, urban areas, gardens, from the lowland up to c. 1600 m altitude.

Distribution: Native to Temperate Eurasia, North and Northeast Tropical Africa according to the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew).

Flowering period: Early spring – early summer MAR, APR, MAY, JUN.
