Taxonomy: Fam. Salicaceae// Genus: Salix// Species: Salix xfragilis L.
Determined according to the botanical key provided in Flora Europaea (Tutin et al., 1964) as the hybrid between Salix alba and Salix fragilis– S. alba x fragilis (Salix x rubens Schrank). In later revisions of the Salix fragilis taxonomy (Belyaeva, 2009) Salix xfragilis L. was lectotypified and this term was applied to the hybrid. The glabrous parent species formerly known as Salix fragilis L. was described as a new species Salix euxina I.V. Belyaeva, rendering the name Salix fragilis L. as misapplied. This taxonomic revisions are accepted by The Euro+Med PlantBase (source: Uotila, 2011).
Distribution: Native to parts of Europe and Asiatic Turkey according to the distribution information provided by The Euro+Med PlantBase (sourse: Uotila, 2011 ).
Habitat: Riparian tree, found alongside rivers.
Lifeform: Tree; phanerophyte – mesophanerophyte according to the Raunkiaer system.
Flowering period: Spring.
