Taxonomy: Fam. Fabaceae// Genus: Melilotus // Species: Melilotus officinalis (L.) Lam.

Determined according to the botanical key provided in The Flora of the Republic of Macedonia (Micevski, 2001) and Flora Europaea (Tutin et al., 1968) as Melilotus officinalis (L.) Pallas (nom. ref. Reise 3:537 (1776). In The Euro+Med PlantBase (Source: ILDIS World Database of Legumes, 2010) this taxon is accepted under Melilotus officinalis (L.) Lam. (nom. ref. Fl. Franç., ed. 2, 2: 594. 1779).

Lifeform: Biennial.

Distribution: Native from Europe to West Himalaya and West Siberia according to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens Kew).

Habitat:  Found in open habitats- grasslands, sparse woods and bushland, alongside roads.

Flowering period:  Late spring – early summer.
