Taxonomy: Fam. Caryophyllaceae// Genus: Arenaria// Species: Arenaria serpyllifolia L.
Determined according to the botanical keys provided by Chater and Halliday in Tutin et al. (1964) and Micevski in Micevski (1993).
Note: differs from the similar Arenaria leptoclados (Rchb.) Guss. in having hard, ovoid or ovoid conical capsule distinctly swollen at the base and seeds 0.45 – 0.7 mm in diameter.
Lifeform: Annual, therophyte according to the Raunkiaer system.
Distribution: Native to Temperate Eurasia to Philippines, North Africa to Ethiopia according to to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew).
Habitat: Open habitats – hill pastures, rocky terrains with shallow soil, at lower elevations.
Flowering period: Spring: APR, MAY.
