Determined according to the botanical key provided in The Flora of the Republic of Macedonia (Micevski, 1998) as Pyrus pyraster Burgsd., Anleit. Holzart. 2: 193 (1787). The accepted name in the Euro+Med PlantBase (source: Kurtto, 2009) is Pyrus communis subsp. pyraster (L.) Ehrh., in Hannover. Mag. 1780(14): 223. 1780.
Lifeform: Perennial, tree; mesophanerophyte according to the Raunkiær system.
Distribution: In Europe and the Mediterranean region it is native from Europe to Turkey according to the distribution information provided by The Euro+Med PlantBase (source: Kurtto, 2009).
Habitat: Clearings of forests and alongside roads from the mountain foot up to c. 1600 m altitude.
Flowering period: Spring: APR.
