Determined according to the botanical key provided by Webb and Camarasa in Tutin et al. (1972) as Odontites vernus subsp. serotinus (Dumort.) Corb., nomencl. ref.: Nouv. Fl. Normand. 437 (1894). The accepted name in the Euro+Med PlantBase (Marhold, 2011+) is Odontites vulgaris Moench, nomencl. ref.: Methodus: 439. 1794.
Lifeform: Annual; therophyte according to the Raunkiær system.
Distribution: Native from Europe to Siberia and North China according to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew).
Habitat: Open habitats- grassland, pastures, clearings of oak and European beech forests, alongside roads, from c. 500 to 1400 m altitude.
Flowering period: Summer – autumn: AUG, SEP.
