Campanula sparsa Friv.

Taxonomy: Fam. Campanulaceae// Genus: Campanula// Species: Campanula sparsa Friv.

Determined according to the botanical key provided in Flora Europaea (Tutin et al., 1976).

Variability: the species shows considerable morphological variation. Even though 3 subspecies have been described (Tutin et al., 1976) none is currently accepted in The Euro+Med PlantBase (source: Castroviejo et al., 2010). In the Osogovo region, plants with morphological similarities to Campanula sparsa Friv. subsp. sparsa and Campanula sparsa subsp. sphaerotix (Griseb.) Hayek occur.

Lifeform: Annual; therophyte according to the Raunkiær system.

Distribution: Native from Balkan Peninsula to Hungary according to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew).

Habitat:  Woods, shrubland, clearings and edges of forests in the zones of mixed oak forests and European beech forests.

Flowering period:  Summer: JUN, JUL, AUG.
