Taxonomy: Fam. Rosaceae// Genus: Prunus// Species: Prunus spinosa L.// Subspecies: Prunus spinosa subsp. dasyphylla (Schur) Domin.

Determined according to the botanical key provided in The Flora of the Republic of Macedonia (Micevski, 1998) as Prunus spinosa var. dasyphylla Schur, nomencl. ref.: Enum. Pl. Transs. 178 (1866). In The Euro+Med PlantBase (source: Kurtto, 2009) this taxon is accepted at the subspecies level – Prunus spinosa subsp. dasyphylla (Schur) Domin, nomencl. ref.: in Bull. Int. Acad. Tchéque Sci., Cl. Sci. Math. Nat. Méd. 54(27): 15. 1944.

Lifeform: Shrub; Phanerophyte according to the Raunkiær system.

Distribution:  Native from Europe to central Asia and Iran, Northwest Africa according to the Plants of the World Online portal, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.

Habitat: Grasslands, shrublands, edges and clearings of forests.

Flowering period: Spring: MAR, APR.
