Taxonomy: Fam. Rosaceae// Genus: Prunus// Species: Prunus spinosa L.// Subspecies: Prunus spinosa subsp. dasyphylla (Schur) Domin.

Determined according to the botanical key provided by Micevski in Micevski (1998) as Prunus spinosa var. dasyphylla Schur, nomencl. ref.: Enum. Pl. Transs. 178 (1866). In The Euro+Med PlantBase (source: Kurtto, 2009) this taxon is accepted at the subspecies level – Prunus spinosa subsp. dasyphylla (Schur) Domin, nomencl. ref.: in Bull. Int. Acad. Tchéque Sci., Cl. Sci. Math. Nat. Méd. 54(27): 15. 1944.

Lifeform: Shrub; Phanerophyte according to the Raunkiær system.

Distribution:  Native from Europe to central Asia and Iran, Northwest Africa according to the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew).

Habitat: Grasslands, shrublands, edges and clearings of forests.

Flowering period: Spring: MAR, APR.
