Determined according to the botanical key provided by Micevski (1995).
Lifeform: Large shrub or small tree; phanerophyte according to the Raunkiaer system. Although commonly described as a tall shrub, in the Osogovo region full-grown tree sized specimens are frequently found.
Distribution: Native to from Europe to Central Asia, North China to Japan according to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online (Royal Botanic Gardens Kew).
Habitat: European beech (Fagus sylvatica) forests and riparian vegetation – alongside rivers.
Flowering period: Spring: APR, MAY.
