Cornus sanguinea L. subsp. sanguinea

Taxonomy: Fam. Cornaceae// Genus: Cornus// Species: Cornus sanguinea L.// Subspecies: Cornus sanguinea L. subsp. sanguinea.

Determined according to the botanical keys provided by Micevski and Matevski (2005 in Micevski) to species level and Ball (1968 in Tutin et al.) to subspecies level.

Lifeform:  Perennial, large shrub or small tree; Microphanerophyte according to the Raunkiær system.

Distribution: Cornus sanguinea L. is native from Europe to Lebanon and Caucasus; Cornus sanguinea L. subsp. sanguinea is native from Europe to Turkey according to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew).

Habitat: River gorges, near rivers in riparian vegetation, shrublands, woods, edges and clearings of forests, roadsides. Common member of the Querco-carpinetum orientalis association.

Flowering period: Spring- early summer: MAY, JUN.
