Note: A morphologically similar species to Polypodiuminterjectum Shivas, which also occurs in the Osogovo region. Observation of a number of macromorphological features and the micromorphological features of the sporangia is essential for correct delimitation.
Lifeform: Perrenial; Hemicryptophyte according to the Raunkiær system.
Distribution: Native to Iceland; from Europe to West Siberia, Japan, Xinjiang (China) and Iran; Northwest and South Africa; Kerguelen Islands according to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Garden, Kew).
Habitat: Moist and shady habitats- oak and European beech forests, river gorges.
