Determined to species level according to the botanical keys provided by Tutin in Tutin et al. (1964) and Gajić in Josifović (1970). Variability: The populations from Osogovo correspond to the characteristics of D. carthusianorum var. sanguineus (Vis.) Gajić = D. sanguineus Vis. (Gajić in Josifović, 1970).
Distribution: D. carthusianorum is native to Europe according to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew) and also to Turkey according to The Euro+Med PlantBase (source: Marhold, 2011+).
Habitat: Open habitats- grasslands and pastures, from c. 900 m up to 1600m altitude.
Lifeform: Perennial; Hemicryptophyte according to the Raunkiær system.
Flowering period: Summer: JUN, JUL.
