Determined according to the botanical key provided by Walters and Webb in Tutin et al. (1972).
Two subspecies of Veronica serpyllifolia L. occur in the Osogovo region and Veronica serpyllifolia L. subsp. serpyllifolia and Veronica serpyllifolia subsp. humifusa (Dicks.) Syme. Distinction between subspecies:
–Veronica serpyllifolia L. subsp. serpyllifolia: corolla white with blue veins; pedicels of flowers equaling calyx length and less than two times longer in fruit;
–Veronica serpyllifolia subsp. humifusa (Dicks.) Syme: corolla bright blue; pedicels of flowers c. 2 times longer than calyx, up to 3 times longer in fruit. Raceme with longer and denser glandular hairs as compared to subsp. serpyllifolia.
Lifeform: Perrenial; Hemicryptophyte according to the Raunkiær system.
Distribution: Native to Europe; Asia- Kirgizstan, East Himalaya, Manchuria (China) to Kamchatka (Russia) and Japan; The Americas- Alaska to Venezuela according to the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew).
Habitat: Found in wet habitats – near streams.
Flowering period: Spring: APR, MAY.
