Linaria genistifolia subsp. dalmatica (L.) Maire & Petitm.

Taxonomy: Fam. Plantaginaceae// Genus: Linaria// Species: Linaria genistifolia (L.) Mill.// Subspecies: Linaria genistifolia subsp. dalmatica (L.) Maire & Petitm. The classification is given according to The Euro+Med Planbase (Marhold, 2011+).

Determined according to the botanical keys provided by Chater, Valdes and Webb in Tutin et al. (1972) as Linaria genistifolia subsp. dalmatica (L.) Maire & Petitm. and Nikolić in Josifović (1974) as Linaria dalmatica (L.) Mill. The accepted name in The Euro+Med Planbase (Marhold, 2011+) is Linaria genistifolia subsp. dalmatica (L.) Maire & Petitm.

Species variability: In the Osogovo region two subspecies of Linaria genistifolia (L.) Mill. occur: Linaria genistifolia (L.) Mill. subsp. genistifolia and Linaria genistifolia subsp. dalmatica (L.) Maire & Petitm.

Distinction between subspecies: 

subsp. genistifolia: corolla 13 – 22 mm long, leaves generally at least 4 times as long as wide.

subsp. dalmatica: corolla 25 – 40 mm long, larger leaves of the main stem 1.5 to 2 times as long as wide, those of the branches up to less than 4 times as long as wide.

Lifeform: Perrenial; Hemicryptophyte according to the Raunkiær system.

Distribution: Native to Italy, Southeast Europe to Syria according to the distribution information provided by The Euro+Med Planbase (Marhold, 2011+) and the Plants of the World Online portal.

Habitat:  Edges and clearings of forests, roadsides.

Flowering period: Summer: JUN, JUL, AUG.
