Persicaria maculosa Gray (syn. Polygonum persicaria L.)

Taxonomy: Fam. Polygonaceae// Genus: Persicaria// Species: Persicaria maculosa Gray.

Determined according to the botanical keys provided by Webb and Chater in Tutin et al. (1964) and Micevski in Micevski (1995) as Polygonum persicaria L., Sp. Pl. 361 (1753). The accepted name in The Euro+Med PlantBase (Uotila, 2017+) is  Persicaria maculosa Gray, Nat. Arr. Brit. Pl. 2: 269. 1821.

Lifeform: Annual; Therophyte according to the Raunkiær system.

Distribution: Native to Temperate Eurasia and North Africa according to the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew).

Habitat: Wet and moist habitats – near and on the banks of rivers, streams and other bodies of water, up to c. 1600 m altitude.

Flowering period: Late summer – fall: AUG, SEP, OCT.
