Determined according to the botanical keys provided by Webb in Tutin et al. (1968) and Micevski (1998).

Lifeform: Tree. Phanerophyte according to the Raunkiær system.

Distribution: Native to the Transcaucasus region according to the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew); Asian part of the East Mediterranean region according to The Euro+Med Plantbase (Kurtto, 2009+). Introduced across the Mediterranean, West and Central Asia, Europe and North America.

Not native to North Macedonia and Osogovo region. Introduced species cultivated for its fruit, occasionally found as escape in forests-steppe habitats and rural areas (near settlements, orchards and cultivated land).

Habitat: Cultivated plant. Recorded as sub-spontaneous near Svilanovo region, in a shrubland/ forests-steppe habitat along with other members of the Rosaceae such as Prunus cerasifera, Prunus spinosa, Pyrus communis subsp. pyraster and Pyrus spinosa.

Flowering period: Spring (FEB, MAR).
