Taxonomy: Fam. Apocynaceae// Genus: Vinca// Species: Vinca herbacea Waldst. & Kit.

Determined according to the botanical key by Matevski (2010) and Stearn (1972 in Tutin et al.).

Note: the plants from Osogovo have more or less procumbent stems and lanceolate or oblong elliptical leaves, corresponding to subsp. herbacea. However, no subspecies are recognised in The Euro+Med PlantBase (Marhold, 2011+).

Lifeform:  Perennial plant. Hemicryptophyte according to the Raunkiær system.

Distribution: Native from Central and Southeast Europe to South European Russia and West Asia according to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew).

Habitat: Hill pastures (steppe-like habitats) in the village of Sokolarci region.

Flowering period:  Spring: MAR, APR.
