Distribution: Native to Europe, parts of Asia and parts of Africa. Introduced in North America, South America, South Africa and Australia (Plants of the World Online portal).
Habitat: Found in open habitats (grassland), rock terrains, river gorges, scrublands, clearings and edges of forests.
Flowering period: :Late winter- early spring (FEB, MAR, APR).
