Viola orbelica Pančić

Taxonomy: Fam. Violaceae// Genus: Viola// Species: Viola orbelica Pančić

Determined according to the botanical key provided by Micevski in Micevski (1995).

Note: somewhat similar to the yellow flowered form of Viola gracillis Sm., from which it differs in having erect stems, the morphology of the middle and upper leaves and stipules and the morphology of the calyx.

Lifeform: Annual or perennial; therophyte or hemicryptophyte according to the Raunkiær system.

Distribution: Native to the Balkan Peninsula according to the distribution information provided by The Euro+Med PlantBase (Raab-Straube & Henning, 2018+) and the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew).

Habitat:  Subalpine pastures, mainly around the highest peaks, but also in rocky terrains at lower altitudes (Sinkovica, c. 950 m altitude).

Flowering period: Spring to summer: APR, MAY, JUN, JUL.

Locality: Sinkovica.

Locality: “Carev vrv” peak – “Markova stupka” region.
