Taxonomy: Fam. Potenderiaceae// Genus: Heteranthera// Species: Heteranthera reniformis Ruiz & Pav.

Determined according to the botanical keys provided by Valentine (Pontederiaceae) and Webb (Heteranthera) in Tutin et al. (1980).

Lifeform: Annual or perennial aquatic plant rooted in mud; therophyte or hydrophyte according to the Raunkiær system.

Distribution: Native from Central and East USA to Tropical & Subtropical America; not native to the Osogovo region – introduced; common weed in the rice filed region bordering the southern side of Osogovo, also found inwards in the Osogovo region up to c. 700 m altitude (village of Rajchani).

Habitat: Aquatic plant found in ponds and other stagnant waters.

Flowering period: Late summer – autumn: SEP, OCT.
