Tragopogon porrifolius L.

Taxonomy: Fam. Compositae// Genus: Tragopogon// Species: Tragopogon porrifolius L.

Determined according to the botanical key provided by Richardson in Tutin et al. (1976) as Tragopogon porrifolius L. subsp. porrifolius, in which Tragopogon eriospermus Ten. was also included. According to The Euro+Med PlantBase (Greuter, 2006+), native to the Balkan peninsula is the later and is accepted as separate subspecies – Tragopogon porrifolius subsp. eriospermus (Ten.) Greuter.

Note: The specimens from Osogovo have involucre with 8 to 12 involucral bracts.

Lifeform: Biennial plant. First year is vegetative; flowering and fruiting occur in the second year.

Distribution: According to the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew) T. porrifolius L. is native from the Mediterranean to Baltic states and Arabian Peninsula, while T. porrifolius subsp. eriospermus is native from South Europe to Türkiye.

Habitat: Ruderal areas near cultivated land. Recorded in the village of Beli region and ruderal areas near Kochani.

Flowering period: Spring: APR, MAY.
