Taxonomy: Fam. Aspleniaceae// Genus: Asplenium// Species: Asplenium adiantum-nigrum L.// Subspecies: Asplenium adiantum-nigrum subsp. onopteris (L.) Heufl.

Determined according to the botanical keys provided by Micevski (1985) and Crabbe et al. in Tutin et al. (1964) as Asplenium onopteris L., Sp. Pl. 1081 (1753). The accepted name in the Euro+Med Plantbase (Christenhusz & Raab-Straube, 2013+) is Asplenium adiantum-nigrum subsp. onopteris (L.) Heufl. in Verh. Zool.-Bot. Vereins Wien 6: 310. 1856.

Lifeform: Perrenial; Hemicryptophyte according to the Raunkiær system.

Distribution: Native to Macaronesia, Ireland to Mediterranean and Iran according to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Garden, Kew).

Habitat: Shaded positions – under trees. Recorded in mixed European beech – oak forest at c. 900 m altitude near the waterfall of “Shtalkovicka” River.
