(1976) (C. variegata var. aligera Gugler). According to Gajić (1975 in Josifović) it keys out as Centaurea triumfettii var. axillaris (Willd.) Hayek (Centaurea axillaris Willd.). The accepted name in the Euro+Med PlantBase (Greuter, 2006+) is Cyanus triumfettii subsp. axillaris (Čelak.) Štěpánek in Slavík & Štěpánková, Květena České Republ. 7: 455. 2004.

Lifeform: Perennial plant. Hemicryptophyte according to the Raunkiær system.

Distribution: Native from Southeast Europe to Southwest Siberia and Iran according to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew).

Habitat:  Edges and clearings of oak forests. Recorded in the hilly region between the villages of Pantelej and Rajchani.

Habitat: Moist habitats – on the edges of mountain streams and rivers in the upper part of the mountain. Common member of the hydrophilous (tall herb fringe) communities. Recorded from c. 1450 m altitude up to the subalpine belt, along streams and wet habitats around the highest peaks.
